Generally speaking, plumbing is pretty easy. Water moves anywhere under pressure and crap rolls down hill. 

With sink drain repair; your worst case scenario is removing and rebuilding all the drain pipes all the way to the main line. 

For main line drain repair; the hardest part is getting to the problem. To make it easier we have a garden tractor with a backhoe attachment available for an additional $30 per hour run time. (two hour minimum)

When testing drains for leaks everyone will run the faucet. I will take it a step further and fill the sink in an attempt to put the highest strain on the drain as possible. In addition to this, for kitchen sinks I'll run the disposal while the water drains looking for leaks. 

The bulk of my service experience is from a time when copper was king. The bulk of our work was re-piping homes from galvanized to copper. When CPVC came along it was  a god send. Now PEX is the newest and greatest technology.
